Wanting to reupholster a chair or footstool and learn a new hobby or skill then this class would be suitable for you. Your first project should be in good repair, ie the chair should not need sticking back together, the seat should just need upholstering. You’ll work alongside no more than 5 other novice sewing students who have been grouped in a Beginners class so that all the students will feel at ease.
The six-week course takes you through the basics of modern upholstery. You will work on your own project with tools available in the class.
Upholstery supplies can also be purchased in the class, so all you need is the final top fabric. The cost of this varies dependant upon the size of your project a guide would be between £5 & £30. You will be guided through each stage of the process from initially stripping down the chair, through the application of webbing and foam, and finally applying your fabric of choice.
The classes are held on the first floor, so you will need to be able to carry your furniture up one flight of stairs. Projects need to be taken home in between classes.
Ania has been teaching upholstery to beginners in the region for 3 years. Her ability to share her expertise and nurture students in a calm and relaxed atmosphere ensures her classes are very popular. We are delighted that Ania is holding classes at The Sewing Shed.
As well as teaching Ania produces commission pieces in her local workshop for top interior designers and private clients.
We offer 6-week sewing courses costing £90 (including the use of one sewing machines and upholstery tools in class). Courses run at the following times; once you’ve chosen a day and time, you’ll attend all 6 weeks on the same day and at the same time (eg always Monday Morning or Monday afternoon).
