Our beautiful studio in West Yorkshire is well equipped to help you learn upholstery. If you are not located in Yorkshire why not attend the One Day Saturday Workshops and make a weekend of it staying in the beautiful spa town of Ilkley. More local …then attend weekly in our daytime Monday class!
Wanting to reupholster a chair or footstool and learn a new hobby or skill then this class would be suitable for you. Your first project should be in good repair, ie the chair should not need sticking back together, the seat should just need upholstering. You’ll work alongside no more than 5 other novice upholstery students so that all the students will feel at ease.
There is scope in this course to progress to more complicated items of furniture as we have pneumatic tools, but we suggest you start with an easier first project to learn the basics.
The six-week course takes you through the basics of modern upholstery. You will work on your own project with tools available in the class.
Upholstery supplies can also be purchased in the class, so all you need is the final top fabric. The cost of this varies dependant upon the size of your project a guide would be between £5 & £30. You will be guided through each stage of the process from initially stripping down the chair, through the application of webbing and foam, and finally applying your fabric of choice.
The classes are held on the first floor, so you will need to be able to carry your furniture up one flight of stairs. Projects need to be taken home in between classes if possible. Larger projects can be left in between classes and arrangements can be made to take delivery of them, as unfortunately we are unable to carry them up the stairs for you.
As the six-week course but condensed into a day from 10am – 4pm.
You could expect to tackle a couple of drop in seats, a couple of small foot stools, a large foot stool, an ottoman or a headboard. Send us a photo so we can check it is suitable.
Do bring a packed lunch as we will have a short break.
