Hand Embroidery Course – Tuesday daytime 12.30-2.30pm
A creative course to learn how to embellish your fashion and home
furnishings or create a piece of art. We will explore techniques of hand
embroidery, applique, hand quilting, and beadwork.
If you would like to explore your creativity bring along a favourite photo or greetings card as a starting point to your first class. Or if you would like to learn through a more structured approach you can create a beautiful mandala (round sampler created in a hoop) that can be the starting point for future pieces.
Each week you are taught a new embroidery technique and the remainder of the class is left for you to embroider your own creative piece or mandala. Materials list provided on booking, mixed ability class – no prior embroidery experience required.
Relax and take time out to learn how to hand quilt and sew English paper piecing patchwork . Suitable for complete novices looking for a new hobby or some me-time in their busy week, to those that may have previously patch-worked but are looking to learn a new skill in a friendly, supportive group setting.
Hand Quilting & Hand Patchwork – Tuesday daytime 9.30-11.30am
Each week we will begin the session by exploring an aspect of quilting or patchwork from our own heritage or from around the world to help us with your own work. You can bring in a project you want to finish or work on or Helen can help you choose a project and start you off.
Projects include; Starting Hand Quilting patterns and designs, North Country Quilting (Durham Quilting), English Paper Piecing, Japanese Sashiko, Indian kantha.
Ilkley textile artist and qualified textiles teacher Helen Barnes is sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge of hand embroidery and quilting from around the world with a selection of themed workshops and a weekly class. A member of the Embroiders Guild Helen regularly features in Ilkleys annual Art Trail and teaches workshops across Yorkshire.
Tuesday daytimes Six Consecutive Weeks, £90.
We limit our classes to small numbers to ensure a good ratio of tutor to student, this will be a maximum of 8 for these classes.
Our classes are popular, so please do plan ahead to avoid disappointment.
These can be booked as a single 6 week course or a continuous ongoing course. It is bookable in 6 week blocks, payable in advance. Existing students will be given priority for places before new students can join, and where places are limited and the course is full, new starters may wish to join the waiting list.
