Creative Embroidery Course – Tuesday Weekly Classes, 12.30-2.30pm, from Sept 17th 2019. Six weeks £90.
A creative course to learn how to embellish your fashion and home
furnishings or create a piece of art. We will explore techniques of hand
embroidery, applique, hand quilting, beadwork and English paper piecing.
You will learn how to design, use colour and apply a variety of techniques to your own work with examples from past and present designers.
Choose from making a sampler of techniques or a book cover (maybe
for your sketch book) then together we can develop individual projects
you would like to work on. Materials list provided on booking.
Themed Embroidery workshops from 10am – 4pm, leave with a complete piece of embroidery. All materials and drinks are included. Just remember your packed lunch. £55.
Sun Mandalas – Saturday 7th September
Relax for the day being mindful and learn new embroidery stitches to create a beautiful hanging mandala in an embroidery hoop to adorn your home. We will look at mandala design from India to inspire us.
You will then have the skills to apply the hand stitches in your creative
work to make unique fashion and home furnishings.
Durham Quilting – Saturday 5th October
Spend a day learning about our quilting heritage. Create a beautiful placemat using the traditional patterns and designs of the ladies in the northern dales.
You will acquire the knowledge of hand quilting which can be applied
to future patchwork and quilting projects.
Scandinavian Gift Bag – Saturday 9th November
Create a folk bag inspired by Scandinavian designs. Learn the techniques of felt applique and embellishment while gaining an insight into Swedish textile work. We will use hand embroidery stitches and beadwork to enhance the bold attractive folk design. You leave with the completed bag and the skills to recreate these techniques at home.
Early Spring Flowers – Saturday 4th January 2020. Enjoy a day embroidering a flower design you have chosen from Helens
spring collection. You will learn a variety of new hand stitches and look
at the use of flowers in textile flower fabrics to inspire you.
The finished embroidered flower or two can be embellished with sequin and bead work. Your work will be presented in a mount for you to take home.
Ilkley textile artist and qualified textiles teacher Helen Barnes is sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge of hand embroidery and quilting from around the world with a selection of themed workshops and a weekly class. A member of the Embroiders Guild Helen regularly features in Ilkleys annual Art Trail and teaches workshops across Yorkshire.

All our classes are popular, so please do plan ahead to avoid disappointment. We limit our classes to small numbers to ensure a good ratio of tutor to student, this will be a maximum of 8 for these classes.
