This sewing course is perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing hobby that creates beautiful pieces for their clothes or home, or just to express themselves. This class is mindful yet fun and a great way to make new friends and create beautiful pieces in a nurturing environment. Each class will start creating a mindful stitching journey by hand.
This is a mixed ability class, from those that can’t sew or embroider to those wanting to explore stitches and mixed media to create a family heirloom or realise their own designs. Our tutor is in hand to provide both technical knowledge and creative advice and ideas.
Learn to embellish, mend, recycle and repurpose. Each class will start with a mindful exploration of creating a stitch journal – using different hand stitches. Each student will then work on their own piece, from a future heirloom to a simple but beautiful bookmark – it really is up to you. If you’re stuck for ideas Susan will advise and guide you through a range of techniques by hand and with a sewing machine, which include visible mending, free motion embroidery, mixed media, reusing and repurposing.
In class you can explore:
Each week you will add to your stitching journey and have the time to work on your own project exploring different techniques.
Just yourself, and a pair of small thread scissors, an idea or a project to the second class to be developed over the course.
Threads and fabrics for your stitching journal, one sewing machine per students and bits and bobs to help your creativity.
The Sewing Shed will provide you with materials for the first class and then it’s up to you – you can let your imagination run riot! You could even arrive with a bag of scrap fabric or treasured fabric that you can’t bear to part with and take it from there!
