Experienced patchwork and quilting tutor Denise has a City & Guilds Design Patchwork and Quilting qualification and came recommended to us because of her great teaching style and approachability.
Denise has been teaching for eight years in Lancashire and North Yorkshire and we tempted her to come further east with our fabulously well equipped studio and great team!
Denise has exhibited at the National quilt exhibition in Birmingham and also in Harrogate, where she won ‘Judges choice’ a couple of years ago for her quilt, we are delighted she is joining our team of professional tutors.
Approaching its second year this is a ten week course now welcomes students who are absolute beginners, with no experience, and those thata want to improve their patchwork skills – but would like to build on their knowledge to learn new techniques and increase their skills. There are no restrictions – if you would like to learn traditional patchwork then this is for you!
A new student will produce a number of blocks (squares) that will be made into a quilt. The student can make nine blocks to make a playmat, or 12 blocks to make a single bed size quilt. There is also scope for extra blocks to make the quilt suitable for a double or kingsize.
All students work at their own speed in a small group, with no more than eight in a class, machines are provided.
The course will cover such techniques such as rotary cutting, strip piercing, applique, bias making, half square and quarter square triangles, foundation piercing. Stained glass patchwork. English paper piercing and quilting techniques.
Classes are held monthly, every last-ish Sunday in the month from 10am -4pm for ten months, but not to worry if you don’t finish you can come back the following year. There is no time limit!
