Although beginners might like a suggestion of what they can make, our sewing classes are totally open – you have the freedom to learn to sew anything you want! You’ll work alongside no more than 6 other novice sewing students who have been grouped in a beginners class so that all the students will feel at ease. You might choose to cover such topics as:

The Wednesday night course is to encourage and teach sewing to beginners who want to start a new hobby or novice sewers that haven’t really haven’t got to grips with their sewing machine, in a class with students who have similar capabilities.
Beckys Saturday Workshops are for sewers of all levels and experience, just bring along your current sewing project or ask us for suggestions.
Becky is professionally qualified in dressmaking and pattern cutting and grading. After graduating college Becky worked as a costumier and costume supervisor for the BBC for 15 years. Balancing her life as a Mum with her love of sewing Becky returned to what she loves best – making clothes and has established her own business specialising in bespoke vintage commissions here in Ilkley.
Becky has a passion for both hand and machine sewing and a wealth of knowledge to draw upon, she has recently discovered her enjoyment of sharing these skills with others which has brought her to teaching.
Her good sense of humour, patience and expertise ensure that all beginners will be nurtured so that they can grow in confidence and skills, she has become very popular with students at The Sewing Shed.
We offer 6-week sewing courses costing £90 on a Wednesday evening 7.30-9.30pm (including the use of one sewing machine per student plus an overlocker, and access to two enormous cutting tables). Courses run at the same time each week so you’ll attend all 6 weeks on the same day and at the same time (eg always Wednesday Evenings) Becky is also teaching Saturday Workshops costing £55 are the third Saturday of the month – where you come for the day, just remember your packed lunch!

This course is split in half by the Christmas break, so you get three classes in December and three in January from the 9th.

Our Wednesday night classes are always fully booked, so please do plan ahead to avoid disappointment. Student retention is really high and we are currently running a reserve list for ALL sewing classes. We do occasionally get a space, so do get in touch if you would like to be added to the reserve list. Latest news and last minute availability is also posted on our Facebook page so do LIKE the page so you are kept up to date and we send out regular newsletters by email.
