In our sewing classes for beginners you will all work on the same Tilly & The Buttons pattern, safe in the knowledge that our expert tutor will be on hand to help you along the way taking you through step by step. With small classes, a nurturing, friendly environment these classes are perfect for those new to sewing or those self taught but wanting to be taught professionally.

Who’s it for?

What will I learn?

All the class will use a Tilly & The Buttons dressmaking pattern.

Core dressmaking skills e.g. how to measure to fit your shape, read a pattern or how to achieve a shop bought finish

Understanding how to read a pattern.

Understanding how to use a sewing machine.

What do I need to bring?

The pattern is included in your course fee. You need to supply your own fabric. A basic sewing kit including fabric scissors, pins, tape measure and matching Gutterman sewing thread.

    What equipment is supplied?

        We provide a Janome sewing machine for each student and access to two very large cutting tables and two overlockers. Due to the current social distancing measures each student will work in their own zone 2m from the next student. There is ample space for students to sew and cut out. There will be access to the overlockers as the course progresses.

        when are the classes?

        Our six week course of Beginners Sewing Classes take place on:

        Thursday evenings 7.30pm – 9.30pm

        how much does it cost?

        The six week sewing course costs £110* payable in advance. You will attend the same 2 hour class each week for example always attending on a Thursday night 7.30-9.30pm.* this includes the cost of the pattern RRP £14.50.

        As of 5th January 2021 as we are now in a national lockdown, we are planning to continue with these classes on February 25th. 

        It is anticipated that if you have attended two courses that you will be able to choose a garment of their own choice to make having understood about different types of fabrics and garment construction, but this is at the tutors discretion.
